English
English I
English I is a broad-based language arts program that will help students improve their reading and writing skills to enable them to find success in other academic areas. Students participate in an individualized reading program, as well as study literature units as a class to learn how to become better writers. Students learn about the writing process for both creative and academic writing. They also learn how to peer edit and work in small groups to solve problems. Students also start working on their portfolio pieces.
English II
English II students participate in a variety of projects that enhance their understanding of world literature through multi-media projects, grammar, writing and reading as well as put their writing skills to use in other subject-areas. Students read about or read the literature of the cultures that they study in World History. They also learn how to create a multi-media digital story or write a script. Students continue to add pieces to their portfolio.
English III
Students in English III continue to use their writing and reading skills to better understand the literature of the United States from the colonial period until today. Through a combination of reading and writing about literature, students better understand how writing has influenced political thought in the United States. In addition, the students participate in a synthesis project that becomes part of their portfolio.
English IV
English IV, a general requirement English class, prepares students for college-level writing and English classes through research papers, literature analysis, and reading works of English literature. In addition, students learn about public speaking and drama and participate in a full-length dramatic production.
